Why the Kalvi Podcast?

The COVID19 pandemic brought to light some uncomfortable questions that hid in our blind-spots. It served as an agent of change for teachers, learners, and educational institutions across the globe. It questioned traditional practices, archaic platforms; made us rethink the way we made academic choices and conducted our educational system!

It’s about time, we think beyond obsessive disciplinary controls, obedience, and punctuality to making education a stairway to the discovery of one’s best self.

What is Kalvi?

The word Kalvi comes from Tamil, a language over 2000 years old. It broadly translates to “education” in English. But not in the sense of marching to school in neatly ironed uniforms to secure top grades, or to hold employable credentials necessary to secure a job.

Kalvi, is not the means to an end.

Kalvi, is the essential knowledge and wisdom required to take care of an individual’s basic necessities and holistic-wellbeing, alongside with that of the society’s, she/he lives in.

About Us

The Kalvi Podcast comes from the founders of Zoho Schools

A meaningful alternative to conventional collage education.

17

YEARS!

1400+

GRADUATES!

What started with six students and two professors, two decades ago, today has more than 1400+ students graduating from the various branches of Zoho Schools (including, Technology, Design, Business) and most of them are employed with Zoho Corporation.

At Zoho, we see creating great software that delivers high value as a craft, akin to a work of art. We think beyond the system of credentialism. Our hiring policy and the goal of creating more jobs in rural communities, by itself, contributes to keeping our culture vital.

We do not believe that prior experience in one field should preclude pursuing another. In our company, we have programmers move to creative design, content writers switch to customer support, and copy editors transition into human resource roles.

Our mantra has always been to invest in people and products.

That’s why most of our investments go towards R&D.

Our decision not to take venture capital, not to go for an IPO, and not to be acquired has given us immense freedom—the freedom to innovate, to learn from our mistakes, and to challenge conventional wisdom. We’ve put in the time and hard work to build our software portfolio from scratch, rather than acquiring the work of others.

Zoho is the living example of a successfully bootstrapped, global software company. It’s also one of the few companies that hires talent non-conventionally, and from a practical eye intending to solve real-world problems. Each day in Zoho is viewed as an opportunity for its people to grow into their roles, along with the growth of the company
